The United States passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act on March 27th. This legislation included multiple Small Business Administration (SBA) loans for employers, including the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

Almost 5 million PPP loans have been approved with an average loan size of about $100,000. The industry sector with the most loans by count and dollar amount was “health care and social assistance”. Medical and dental offices together borrowed more than $10 billion.

On July 6th, the SBA and Treasury released names of employers who received $150,000 or more through June 30, 2020. The list also included business addresses and numbers of jobs supported. Non-identifying statistics of loans under $150,000 also provided by the SBA.

How many dental offices received PPP loans?

The exact number is difficult to calculate. But Healthcare Dive estimates 10,627 dental offices received PPP loans greater than $150,000. The specifics of that number are not precise, such as how many specialty offices or dental laboratories are included.
